Concert: Disturbed

I just got back from the Disturbed concert, and I am completely exhausted. It’s been a really long day!

Just a quick review of tonight’s concert for you guys.

The opening band was Age of Dying, who hails from Canada. They were pretty good, they reminded me a bit of Cold and Crossfade. They had interesting vocal tricks which added a good element to the mix as well. Out of their set, I liked “Raining Inside” the best.

The second group was Five Fingered Death Punch. This band was much, much harder than the first. The guitars reminded me a bit of early Metallica, while the vocals were reminiscent of Killswitch Engage. These guys are incredibly talented, especially the bassist and guitarist. While it’s not my type of music, it was pretty enjoyable due to the massive amounts of energy the lead singer exuded.

Finally we got to Disturbed. They opened with “Prayer”, and followed up with “Liberate” which got the crowd really pumped. Included in the set were “Deify” and “Stupefy”, along with “Land of Confusion” and “Fear”. They covered a pretty good selection of songs, finishing with “Sickness” as an encore. One thing that was VERY odd is that they omitted their new single, “Inside the Fire” from the set list. Strange.

David’s vocals weren’t as strong as I was expecting, nor was his stage presence. Overall, even though he seemed to really want to give a good show, there wasn’t much of the energy, anger and power that comes through in his recorded music. He did interact with the crowd quite a lot, even allowing a wheel-chair bound fan up on stage for a few songs, which was awesome.

Overall, it was a fairly good show, partially due to the the manic excitement of the crowd in the small venue.

As far as Disturbed is concerned, I’m glad I got to see them, they were decent and certainly talented, but I am not sure I would attend another of their shows unless they were very close by.

I will hopefully update this post with links later on.

Now, I am going to sleep.

Love you all!

Well guys, I am off to see one of my favorite bands, Disturbed, today! It’s a four hour trip, but I think it will be well worth it.

I will be sure to write a concert review over the weekend.

Much Love!

Twilight Book Series

I am unsure if I have written about this before, but I have a confession to make. I am more than a little hooked on the “Twilight” book series by Stephanie Meyer. It’s a vampire story, a werewolf story, and a love story all rolled into one. There is a little action, a little mystery and a lot of gooey goodness aimed at the young adult crowd. I was a little hesitant to read the first book, because it was written for young adults, and I was certain that it would be too vanilla for my taste. However, after reading Twilight, I immediately started reading New Moon, and didn’t stop until I finished Eclipse. There’s a fourth book, Breaking Dawn, that is coming out soon, which I cannot wait for. I have read the series more than once already, thanks to eBooks and my local library. I am planning on ordering the whole set once Breaking Dawn comes out. Also, on 12/12/08, a movie based on the first book is being released. I am more than a little excited about that as well. While this series isn’t as full of blood and gore as a lot of other vampire novels, it’s certainly addictive once you start reading it.

Another interesting facet to this is that Stephanie Meyer is a member of the LDS church, like my husband is. Knowing some of the beliefs that members have, it is easy to see it echoed in the way she writes to some degree. It’s just a tidbit that I might have not picked up otherwise, and I’ve found it interesting, especially reading the books again, how she injects, maybe not even consciously, some of that culture into the stories she writes. Concepts like virtue, heaven, and the value of a soul come up fairly often. Even the fact that the vampires, the good ones anyway, attempt to avoid causing pain and shy away from drinking human blood is also indicative of the fact that she tries to be a good influence on the demographic she is writing for, even while touching on racy and dark topics.

At any rate, I recommend the books. They aren’t heavy reading, but there’s certainly entertainment value. Plus, something must be said for a book that can knock Harry Potter off the top of the bestsellers list and remain there for 35+ weeks.

Go Stephanie. :)
