National Treasure

November 28, 2004 :: Movies & TV ::

I watched National Treasure tonight. It actually turned out really well, and touched on several historical subjects that I have been interested in for years. The Knights Templar, Freemasonry, American history, were always very interesting to me. For a Disney movie, it had a lot of action, a good storyline and plenty of comedy to keep me interested on top of all the history. It wasn’t a dry or boring movie at all, at least to me. This coming from the girl whose dream job is to be a librarian or an antiques restorer.

I had a very hands-on historical education. When my family traveled, we would search out historical landmarks to tour and learn from. It was very exciting to me. I have always loved it. There is nothing I enjoy more than walking through a 150 year old home of a president, looking at the decor and imagining what it would have been like to be there 150 years ago.

I have also studied wars of the past, the Holocaust, the Bolshevik Revolution, The Civil War…many others at different times. This is part of the reason I get so freakin’ irritated by people complaining about our current war and bitching about how bad we have it, economically, politically, etc.. We have no idea about what it is like to have a bad life. None. When you are burning your furniture, blacking out your windows to guard against air raids, and selling everything you have just to buy food, then you can complain about having a bad life. I don’t want to hear you complain because the job you have just isn’t good enough. Maybe if you tried a little harder to make yourself successful, you would have a better life. Stop your whining.

Heh, yeah. I like history.
