Slacker Manager: Give it away

April 26, 2005 :: General ::

A really good article about managing people. I always have had a problem with delegation. I am not really a manager, and I am barely a supervisor. Heck, I am not sure what I am, but I think that a lot of manager/supervisors should take this advice. It’s much better, IMO, to have a staff that is trained to handle all aspects of a task, than for the manager/supervisor to clutch certain aspects of the job so that they are irreplaceable, and make hand-holding an accepted practice within the company. I know I have been guilty of this, because I just wanted things to be “done correctly”, but it has caused more problems since I have been out of the managing realm, because many people do not know how to do mundane tasks. It’s not a mistake I will make again.

    Hey, glad you dig the post. Best of luck in the new position, too.

    Last, I noticed the Brennan Manning quote on your main index page–Manning’s one of my favorites too…

    Be well.
