The web is all a-flutter with new AJAX apps. It’s justified, too, because of the smooth functionality of AJAX applications.
I was playing around with some old mail accounts, and happened upon a nifty mail site, Goowy. I doubt I will be venturing away from Gmail any time soon, but I have to admit that Goowy is awfully pretty. :) It feature a 2gb Goowy email account which is free of ads, and allows you to check other POP3 email accounts from its interface. You get forwarding, auto-responders, signatures and a sweet contact list to support your mail. It also sports anti-spam and anti-virus. You can log in with a “flashy” or “lite” interface, depending on your connection speed and browser. My Firefox keeps dying when trying to login. I think it’s a browser issue, but I will have to verify that on Monday when I get to work.
Now, back to the features. You get a cute start page with draggable bubbles and blocks which are called, of course, “widgets”. You have an RSS feed reader, mail summary and random quote block, which are draggable anywhere on the page, not just “snap-to-grid” like Google Personalized. There is a Google search box at the bottom, with the rest of your navigation. You can also use a calendar and modify/create themes for the page.
Lastly, just for fun, the implemented a good-sized collection of flash games to keep you occupied when you get board with toying around with all the other gadgets.
It’s pretty decent for a free mail service. I am going to play around with this a little bit more.
