Godforsaken…

I try to go through my day without getting angry about anything.

I really do.

However, I read news stories on the web, and some things just really, really piss me off.

Take this story for example.

Two teenagers in Florida (Amber and Jeremy, ages 16 and 17) are engaging in sexual activity, which isn't at all unusual for teenagers, I don't think.  They decide to snap a few digital photos of themselves being naughty, and once the pictures are uploaded from the camera to Amber's computer, she emails a copy to Jeremy. They were not posted on the web, weren't emailed to anyone else…just emailed from one member of this teenage couple to the other. Now, I would definitely have to say that neither of these individuals were very smart in this situation, because sharing risque photos, especially in a relationship as fickle as teenage ones tend to be, is probably not the wisest decision. However, that's neither here nor there.

According to the news story, this is what happened next:

Court records don't say exactly what happened next–perhaps the parents wanted to end the relationship and raised the alarm–but somehow Florida police learned about the photos.

Amber and Jeremy were arrested. Each was charged with producing, directing or promoting a photograph featuring the sexual conduct of a child. Based on the contents of his e-mail account, Jeremy was charged with an extra count of possession of child pornography.

Now I am vehemently against the exploitation and/or abuse of any child…but this is not abuse, or exploitation, or anything other than a couple of silly teens having fun.  The legal system is dropping the ball (as usual) on this one.

Under Florida law, Amber and Jeremy would be legally permitted to engage in carnal relations, but they're criminals if they document it.

Wolf speculated that Amber and Jeremy could have ended up selling the photos to child pornographers ("one motive for revealing the photos is profit") or showing the images to their friends. He claimed that Amber had neither the "foresight or maturity" to make a reasonable estimation of the risks on her own. And he said that transferring the images from a digital camera to a PC created innumerable problems: "The two computers (can) be hacked."

While I agree that having the photos could be a potential issue if the photos were revealed, arresting the two teens and charging them with criminal actions seems a bit extreme. At most, I could understand the courts ordering that the images be destroyed.

Yet another reason for me to move to Canada. :)

    Move to Canada? HAH!

    What would that do??? WOOOO!!!!

    Absolutely NOTHING.

its because of that sentiment that the law is stupid in the first place. Oh…..I cant do anything about anything so I just wont…or Ill just Leave. Thats REAL Smart! NOT

If you want to make a difference…quit whining about Moving off because things arent the way you like them..AND STAND UP!

Its absolutely appalling that stupidity runs rampant in this country because good people do NOTHING.

Don’t cry to me about how little or no difference one persons actions or opinions count in the grand scheme of things.

Do you think for ONE second the Fathers of our country said….screw this….lets just move to France or some shit like that??? When a mere 56 people signed the Declaration of Independence against the Sole Super Power of the planet 230 years ago???

No….they didnt run off, they decided to DO SOMETHING.

Quit whining and blaming people for doing stupid shit or making stupid descisions…..People are people and Stupid people are stupid because people dont Stand up and try.

  2. What would you recommend I do? I blog, I post my opinions of stupid shit like this on news sites…I sign the petitions and I vote for who I think will fight against the idiocy that runs rampant in this country. However, when voting and blogging and signing petitions don’t make a difference, and the religious right in this country keeps making stupid fucking decisions like this, I certainly have the right to whine all I want. :)

Blogs and Petitions have little bearing right now, although they are picking up steam in the public opinion polls. In the end its those that are in the public EYE that make us or break us.

The Voting Booth although in purity is the most powerful tool in the world, unfortunately its still those with either the most MONEY or CHARISMA that will decide our fate.

My suggestion is to talk directly with those that make the laws…..your congress men and women have websites, Phone numbers, AND …..get this…..hehehe…OFFICES!! Real honest to god OFFICES that you can go look them eye to eye and voice concerns.

DO IT! you might learn something you didnt know…or better yet…you may even TEACH them something they didnt.

Lastly, the Religious Right…..ummmmmm…hmmmm….You have a point….BUT….seriously when someone presents an IDEA….and either twists data around, talks out of context and 09hits nerves in people that have children. Not many people ask questions. and because people do not ask questions……ergo….Dont Stand up…..many THINGS….LAWS…..end up making things worse in the long run.

As stated above….Stand up….ASK QUESTIONS…..TALK…..dont be timid if you really believe in something or feel its wrong.
