Everytime I think that government officials are not going to make yet another stupid decision, they surprise me. Georgia education leaders have unanimously voted to implement Bible classes into public school curriculum.
I have a real problem with this.
If they chose to offer a "history of religions" class as an elective, I would not be as miffed, but the focus on Christianity is completely asinine. No religion has the market cornered on truth, or has exclusive right to be taught to students.
Yet another close-minded choice from a close-minded system.

First….its not REQUIRED, therefore only students that want to take the class, will.
Second….what is the difference between a teacher that influences students into their own doctrine of Patriotism, Politics, Economics, Science, etc.
Point being, that who gets upset that many teachers and College professors are VERY liberal in thought and we dont have many folks on soap boxes saying “THEY CANT INTERJECT THEIR PERSONAL VIEWS ON STUDENTS”….because they obviously do.
I for one believe that the separation of Church and State is extremely important as not to enter into fundamentalism.
However, if its an OPTION….why not engage in academic study on an ancient text? Its all about LEARNING right?
Be careful in your position and outward demeanor to those you consider CLOSE-MINDED…as YOU too…..seem very close-minded when it comes to religious TEACHING.
I for one very much enjoy learning and studying religion is very rewarding as it actually opens you up and enlightens the soul to different possibilities and to the fundamental basics of human needs.
However, if I was being proselytized…..I would listen but would probably not get as much out of it as most religions teach that only THEIR way is the right way and everything else will lead you to hell.
THAT is a fundamental flaw in my opinion but certainly effective in CONTROLLING the masses.
We could talk ALL night about this subject. Maybe we should visit sometime.
I fully believe that people should learn about religion, discuss it, debate about it, you name it. I would, however, hope that they would offer a religion class, not just a Bible class. I wouldn’t have people be ignorant about religion altogether; that would cause more problems than it would solve…but focusing ONLY on the Bible doesn’t seem to be the right option.
I think the point of the class was Literary in intent.
Which truthfully is strange, as unless they dig out the original text in Hebrew or Greek…..there really is no LITERARY aspect to the Bible, as there are many translations, some that make the message rather DIFFERENT.
THEN….we have the issues of who BUILT the Bible back around 300 AD.
THEN we have the Dead Sea Scrolls.
THEN…..
well, now Im off subject, as the Class is a literature class….not a Religion Class.
The reason why they chose the Bible over the Tanakh or the Quran or the plethora of Dharmic Sutras??
Probably the demographics of that area.
Still…..if you didnt want to take it…….noone is forcing anyone.
Hey Jeff,
Lay off the all in capitals emphasis on some of your words. I do have enough intelligence to get the obvious points of your posts without you having to “shout” it at me. (Besides it makes your posts look disjointed and harder to read)
