I can usually figure out why my browser does funky things. However, my browser is doing something very funky on certain web sites, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why. I'm going to do more research on the issue, but it is certainly perplexing.
My friend posted a bulletin on Myspace a couple days ago, asking for votes on a picture he submitted to JPGmag. I clicked the image, it took me to JPGmag, but all the photos looked exactly the same (a picture of blurred cars on a highway at night). The thumbnails, full-sized images, everything. I signed up for an account at JPGmag, thinking it was some security feature, but that did no good. I cleared my cache, manually deleted my temp files, disabled extensions in Firefox, tried the page in IE, and finally rebooted. No luck. I finally decided that the site was FUBAR, so I left it alone and started using StumbleUpon for a few minutes, just idly clicking through some sites. Strangely, a couple of the sites I clicked on (not all) were having the exact same issue. I right-clicked and viewed the image location and info, there didn't seem to be anything unusual about the file name. Also, these sites didn't really have anything in common with the original site.
I finally gave up and went to sleep.
I went to pick my husband up for lunch today, and was talking to my friend about his photo. I mentioned to him the odd issue I was having with the site, and he said he was having the same problem. He also tried loading the page(s) in two different browsers (He has a MAC), clearing all the temp files, and rebooting, but nothing seemed to help.
I came home tonight and decided to try to recreate the problem so I could get a copy of the image, and post it on Yahoo! Answers to see if anyone had a clue what might be happening.
Of course, the JPGmag site was working fine, and no amount of refreshing would cause the odd problem to occur. So, I decided to retrace my steps exactly as I had the night before. I opened MySpace, went to the bulletin, clicked the link, and BOOM. The page loaded only the single image. I tried logging back out of MySpace, clearing cache, trying it in IE…pretty much everything I had done before, but it still only loads the single image across the entire site.
I am really stumped, but if anyone has an idea what might be happening, let me know!!
This is the image it is loading:
