Live Free or Die Hard

June 28, 2007 :: Movies & TV ::

I just got back from the movies, and I want to say that Live Free or Die Hard was a FUCKING AWESOME movie. I love Bruce Willis, and the Die Hard series is classic. How many people can argue with the fact that John McLane is pretty much the most badass action character in film history?  I was a little apprehensive about Die Hard making a comeback, but Live Free or Die Hard did not disappoint at all. The cinematography was quite good, better than I've seen in an action flick in recent memory. Bruce Willis did a great job in the film, showing his age, but in a way that made the character still believable as a hardcore action hero. Justin Long didn't do a bad job playing Matt Ferrall in the film, which I was glad to see, given the over exposure of the Apple commercials. I also enjoyed the performance of Timothy Olyphant as the villian of the film. He played it off pretty well, though he could have injected a little more evil into the character.

I would have liked to see a more realistic protrayal of computer systems in the film, but it's par for the course when it comes to movies, that the computer screens have to look pretty; not necessarily realistic. Besides, the average movie-goer probably doesn't know the difference or care that it's not pitch-perfect. But hey, it wasn't a "Hacking the Gibson" level of graphical nonsense, so I suppose it can be forgiven. :)

I won't throw out any spoilers, to protect those who haven't see the movie yet. I just want to say, if you are a fan of the Die Hard movies, GO WATCH IT!!!

Yippie Ki Yay indeed.
