Hooray!
January 1, 2008 :: General, Tech Reviews ::
I got my new laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T61p Mobile Workstation) yesterday, and I couldn’t be happier with it. We wiped Vista of course, and installed XP Pro on it, and it has been working like a charm. It’s the latest release in Lenovo’s “Thinkpad” line. For the last couple of years, I have been using an IBM Thinkpad T30, which has been awesome until the last few months. I’ve been running into some fan and heat issues with it, probably due to the fact that I use it constantly when I am at home, and have likely worn the poor thing out. It was purchased used on Ebay, and is about four years old.
After a lot of shopping, I finally decided to stick with brand loyalty and go with another Thinkpad. There’s very little about these systems that I dislike. I’m a fan of the look, feel and sturdiness of the whole machine, as well as the quality of the hardware.
Another plus was that I found one that had nearly the maximum configuration for the system I wanted on Ebay, for the same price as I would have paid for a lower-end system brand new. Plus, this system is under a month old.
Here’s the specs for my new toy:
- Intel Core Duo T7500 2.2ghz (800mhz FSB)
- 15.4 WSXGA+ Display (I’m running it at 1680×1050 Native)
- NVIDIA Quadro 256mb FX 570M Video Card
- CDRw+DVDRw Dual Layer
- HDD 160Gb 7200RPM (You can barely hear it run, and it’s incredibly fast)
- 3Gb RAM
- 4-in-1 Memory Card Reader
- FingerPrint reader
- Integrated Bluetooth
- Built in Microphone
- LED Keyboard Light
- Thinkpad Ultra-Nav (Touch-Pad + Thinkpad “Eraser” Mouse)
- Intel Integrated Wireless (ABGN)
- Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
- USB 2.0 and Firewire
It’s gorgeous, fast and does everything I ask without complaining. :)
(Thanks to my husband for the AWESOME Xmas gift, and for fixing the little hard drive issue so I could spend my New Year’s Eve drooling on the keyboard!!!)
**Update**
