I had an AWESOME weekend!
I think I’ve written about Joan Red before. They are a fairly young band out of Memphis, TN. that has been making a bit of a name for themselves in the Memphis area.
I knew they were headlining Bonestock IV this year, which is a local artist music festival which is held in a park here in my home town every summer.
I found out Friday that they were also going to be at a local club, which I thought was awesome, because I was planning on going to the festival just to see them. They have an excellent sound, which I have liked since I first heard them several months ago.
I went to the club on Friday, and saw Joan Red and Fallen Within. I had not heard Fallen Within before, but they were really quite good. I got a CD and a couple T-shirts of theirs, because ya know I am all about supporting the local artists. :)
Joan Red, of course, were excellent. I got a picture with the lead vocalist, Anthony Basurto. I was a little disappointed at the lack of crowd at the club. Maybe I just have different tastes in music than
others around here, but I think Joan Red is better than any other local band I’ve seen here, period. They are also a really young band; they’ve only been performing for about a year and a half, from what their manager, Chris, told my husband last night.
At any rate, we hung out, chatting with Chris and enjoying the not-overly-crowded club until the wee hours of the morning.
The next morning, I got up early so I could get ready for a day of sun, beer and music. I was really only looking forward to the last two, because I freaking hate the sun. In fact, I call it the “Evil Day Star”. :)
I arrived a little after 1pm, and decided (thankfully) to take my camera with me. I managed to get a few shots of each band I saw, some of them were pretty good. I saw a lot more half-naked people than I generally care to see, but that’s to be expected when it’s 90 degrees outside and humid as hell.
All the bands did a pretty decent job, I thought. There were two stages, but both stages had decent bands and a lot of crowd excitement. For the most part, everyone was fairly well-behaved. The security team only had to tackle a couple of people.
Being the stalker-ish music fan I am, I tracked down Joan Red at one of the beer tents and got a picture with them:

The stand-out bands I remember were One Day, Fallen Within, which I had seen on Friday, and Joan Red.
Of course, Joan Red was awesome. It was nice to see them with a screaming crowd involved, it definitely pushed the band to perform better than ever. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to perform when no one is really paying attention to your music. It would be discouraging, to say the least. Either way, I’m glad they were well received at Bonestock, along with the other bands too.
I will be putting a lot of BoneStock IV photos up on my Flickr Page in the near future. I have a few up now, along with the photo montage of the lead singers from each of the bands from the festival. I also made a Joan Red wallpaper out of shots from the show last night. I wasn’t able to get a picture of the drummer, but everyone else is on there.
It was a great time, even though I am more than a little sore from walking back and forth between the stages all day. :)
